Over the past few days I've been observing a mother bald eagle as she sits on her eggs and keeps her already hatched babies warm. This has been made available through the blessed technology of an eaglecam posted high above in Decorah, Iowa. To watch the mother position herself just perfectly over her babies keeping them warm and providing them security is absolutely amazing. Not being a biological mother, I don't have the same maternal instinct. Almost all of my friends have kids and as I watch and listen to how they are so protective and most would give their own lives to ensure the safety and happiness of their kids, I see it through this mama eagle as well. She will leave the nest long enough to retrieve food, but otherwise, she is with them nurturing and protecting. As I've watched this over the past few days, it has reminded me of our loving God and His love for us. He is our heavenly Father who is constantly nurturing and protecting us. His love, much like the mama eagle is shown through His desire to grow us, protect us and teach us along the way.I thank Him for being ever present, even when sometimes I would rather do it my way...His way is always perfect! As I watch and the winds get stronger, storms come and go and the mom sits valiantly on top of her babies protecting..and loving! It is so indicative of God's love for us as He observes our growth in faith, obedience and the desire to draw closer to Him in the storms of life. These babies will be ready to leave the nest and fly on their own soon. It will be a sad day....thankfully God doesn't push us out of the nest, but allows us to stay with Him through eternity!
